DECEMBER TRUTH OF THE MONTH

The leadership truth of the month for December is Great AMA Leaders make it fun and rewarding to be on the board. During this holiday season is a natural time to think about how we, as leaders, can give back to the people who support the chapter in achieving its goals.

I was talking to a client this morning and she shared with me a very fun "assignment" her boss gave to all of her direct reports. Each team was charged with the task of creating a poster board that told the story of all they had accomplished during the year. The posters were shown off at the department holiday party as each team briefly shared the highlights of their year. This exercise gave each team an opportunity to really pause and reflect on how far they'd come and it also gave great opportunity for recognition at a public celebration. What a brilliant idea!

As you prepare to step into the leadership role, it's important to have a plan for ensuring fun and rewards are an intentional part of your commitment to your team. So think about it, Presidents-Elect ... what are some great ideas you've seen (through AMA, at work, or even in your personal life) that we can all learn from?

Have a wonderful, happy and safe holiday season!

Please feel free to post your ideas and comments in response in this forum. If you have a question or chapter issue that you'd like to discuss anonymously or have recommendations for this blog, please contact me directly at
